Shelf & Screen, A PASSION PROJECT OF MINE, is a repository of HUNDREDS OF REVIEWS I've written OF BOOKS, FILM & TV SHOWS.

the brief

Create a website to showcase my writing. I'd been using a Notion file that was not easy to share and didn't allow for cross-referencing.

I needed a new website that would allow readers to be inspired to pick up a book or choose a film with intention.

the deliverable

I delivered a beautiful website that includes complex filtering, a lovely signature font with ligatures, colorful posters and book covers, and a body copy font that is easy to read.

The site encourages people to read more than one review and includes a sign-up form for a newsletter.

Design Concept

The site should be beautiful and have a literary feeling. It should have a defining font that is easy to read.

The site should have excellent filters so people can easily find what they're looking for.

Animation & Development

I purposely used very little animation on the site as I didn’t want movement on a site dedicated to reading. I did, however, put the Lenis Scroll code into the site settings so every page provides a super smooth scrolling experience. I also used custom code to force the typeface to show its alternate styles.

Development was done with Client-First and includes every possible filter. To enable the complex filtering, I used dozens of Finsweet Attributes.
